Uses of Flowers

Flowers play a significant role in people’s lives. They add beauty and color to the environment and make life more meaningful and attractive. Flowers do have a lot of uses.

Primarily, flowers are used to beautify our surroundings, especially in our house, offices, churches, department stores, streets and parks. Looking at these flowers with different colors and different types, make the environment look very lively and attractive.

Secondly, flowers are used as a symbol of love and affection. Aside from chocolates, a lot of men are fond of giving flowers to the opposite sex when they are courting. This is because, most women love to receive flowers and enjoy watching them.  Flowers for women, is sort of a magic.  They easily fell in love with a guy who loves to give them flowers.  We even give flowers to our friends as a symbol of love and care for them.

Flowers are also used during funerals, weddings, birthdays and other social celebrations. The color and type of flowers used vary on the occasion. Like for example, during a funeral, the flowers used are mostly white and violet. Red flowers are given on Valentine’s Day and birthdays because red symbolizes love, happiness and joy.

Flowers are also used as a form of medicine.  They could be a remedy for flu, fever or colds, arthritis, mild asthma, urinary problems, headaches or migraines, muscle and menstrual cramps, influenza and lots more. Examples of herbal flowers are rose, sunflower, dandelion, chrysanthemum and plum flowers.

We also use flowers as decorative materials such as making potpourris. This can be done through drying flowers, after which, mixing them with other scented materials and then putting them into a container.  When put inside the room, potpourris give a very fragrant smell into it. It also serves as a nice decoration in our house.

Flowers are also used to manufacture perfumes. However, nowadays, there are already a lot of chemicals used to make perfumes. A lot of perfumes still have the scented fragrance of a flower.

Artists such as painters make use of flowers. They sometimes use flowers as a form of medium in their painting. When painting with flowers, painters smashed, crushed and even rubbed them to release their juices and use them in replacement for watercolors.  Artists love to discover new things and new ways in painting and the use of flowers is one of them.

Therefore, the beauties of flowers extend beyond the pretty colors, fragrance and heavenly gardens.  Flowers, whatever man does with them, are truly useful to mankind.
